Battle plans to help Philadelphia Eagles go all-in for Russell Wilson
Eagles trade one 1st-rounder in 2022, another in ’23, and Jalen Hurts to Seattle.
So, how important are draft picks anyway? Wait! Are we actually having that conversation? It’s almost as if the Los Angeles Rams changed the game entirely. While every other NFL franchise stockpiles draft picks to use on available targets in each selection meeting, L.A. simply uses their draft choices as bartering tools.
And, guess what? It’s worked. L.A.’s on the doorstep of winning a Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Now, it’s important that we acknowledge the Rams’ way of doing things isn’t going to work for everyone. To guarantee long-term success, teams must create a healthy balance of proven veterans and young soldiers with high ceilings.
In the NFL, championship windows close as quickly as they come, and if the Birds believe they’re a few pieces away and don’t want to waste the prime years of guys like Dallas Goedert, Darius Slay, Javon Hargrave, and others, they’ll need to exhaust every option if they feel Wilson is the guy that can help get this team over the hump.
It’s going to cost them a pretty penny if they add him though. The Seattle Seahawks‘ asking price is high. Some have said they want multiple first-rounders, and for an Eagles team that has three first-round selections in the coming draft, they have the bargaining chips necessary to get Russell Wilson out of the Pacific Northwest if that’s what they want to do.
Many will say it’s more feasible to keep those first-rounders, but is anyone of the belief that Howie will hit three home runs? What if the Birds sent two first-rounders, one in 2022 and another in 2023, plus Jalen Hurts to Seattle. Would you be on board?
Come on. It isn’t like there’s another Russell Wilson waiting to be drafted in this selection meeting or the next.
