4 Eagles who could follow Doug Pederson to Jacksonville
Does anyone remember when the Eagles added that QB from Houston?
It doesn’t take much to find topics that Eagles fans are split on. All you have to do is begin some roster discussions. Take Greg Ward for instance. Throughout various points of his career, there have been both demands to see him on the field more often and questions about how Philly can get him on the next flight out of town.
The new coaching regime doesn’t seem to be big fans, but here’s what you have to consider. One, regardless of the fact that he’s hauled in 88 receptions in three seasons and reached the end zone ten times, the Birds’ brass always seems to be searching for his replacement. Second, even though he was added by Howie Roseman, Ward’s journey began with Doug Pederson, not Nick Sirianni.
An undrafted free agent rookie addition in 2017, Ward saw his share of ups and downs over time but eventually made the climb to the active roster, starting ten of the Eagles’ 16 games in 2020. In 2021, he got almost zero work though.
He suited up for all 17 games but saw minimal playing time and was only targeted 11 times. He did turn that into seven catches and three touchdowns though.
Who knows what the Eagles are thinking. They can’t afford to ship their best players off, and you can make the argument that Ward is their third-best receiver. He’s also an impending restricted free agent. No one should be shocked if they let him walk. No one should be stunned if he finds his way to Duval County.
