player. 829. . . . Phidarian Mathis, defensive tackle.

Imagine Phidarian Mathis in the Eagles’ defensive tackle rotation.

Fletcher Cox is a future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee. Javon Hargrave is a budding star that’s coming off of his first Pro Bowl season. Milton Williams is one of the best young players that the Philadelphia Eagles have on the roster, and in 2022, Raequan Williams and Marlon Tuipulotu will battle in camp for what might wind up being one spot on the active roster.

You can say that the Eagles’ defensive tackle position is one of the biggest strengths on the roster and the Birds would be content enough to add pieces to fill in other holes, but we know better than that. History has taught us that, if Howie Roseman feels like he can strengthen the interior of the defensive line, it doesn’t matter who’s already on the roster. He won’t hesitate to do so.

Normally, Howie has gone the route of adding great young talent from the AFC in free agency, but if the plan on day two of the next draft is to take a defensive tackle, Phidarian Mathis should be available. Based on the eyeball test, we see him as a top-five prospect at the position along with Jordan Davis (Georgia Bulldogs), Perrion Winfrey (Oklahoma Sooners), Demarvin Leal (Texas A&M Aggies), and Zachary Carter (Florida Gators).
