829. . . . Cameron Latu, tight end. . player

Cameron Latu would give the Eagles another playmaker at tight end.

It’s old news now, but in some ways, it also feels like it happened yesterday. Zach Ertz traded Eagles green for Arizona Cardinals red, and just like that, one era gave way to a new one.

Dallas Goedert is firmly entrenched as the top tight end on the Eagles depth chart. ‘Batman’ could use a ‘Robin’ though, and the Tide’s Cameron Latu is as good a choice as any.

Latu wasn’t the first option on a Bama offense that’s loaded with future NFL stars, but he made the most of his opportunities. Eight of his 26 receptions during the 2021-2022 college football season wound up with him finding the end zone. Here’s what that says to us. Jalen Hurts gets another possession guy to help out on third downs and in the red zone.

The day Latu walked into the NovaCare Complex, he’d be the second tight end on Philadelphia’s depth chart. That’s obvious. Then again, the Eagles could let things stand as they do currently.

They have a big quarterback who’s trying to learn the position (Tyree Jackson). They have unproven guys (Jason Croom and Noah Togiai). There’s an aging veteran (Richard Rodgers) and a guy who’s a better blocker than a receiver (Jack Stoll).

Everyone has their opinion. Here’s one to mull over. The Eagles wouldn’t do themselves a disservice by taking a tight end during April’s NFL Draft.
