6 free agents who would love playing with Eagles QB Jalen Hurts
Sure, JuJu upgrades the Eagles’ WR corps, but does his addition make sense?
During the 2021-2022 NFL season, rookie wideout DeVonta Smith hauled in 64 of his 104 targets, and that resulted in 916 yards and three touchdowns. What’s even more impressive than that is he did it while his quarterback rode the learning curve and his team found its offensive identity in running the football.
Heading into 2022’s offseason, the need for help at wideout is, again, a discussion in Philadelphia. Jalen Reagor is a bust. JJ Arcega-Whiteside has long been a bust, and while Quez Watkins is serviceable, he was a sixth-round draft choice for a reason.
JuJu Smith-Schuster‘s time in Pittsburgh with the Steelers is, more than likely, at its end. While he isn’t as attractive an option as Allen Robinson, Chris Godwin, or Davante Adams, he’ll be one of the more sought-after options at the position.
The argument can be made that JuJu is at his best when he’s ‘Robin’ because he clearly isn’t ‘Batman’. Some might even argue that Philadelphia has their Batman in Smith, so it doesn’t matter. Others still might be on the side that the Eagles shouldn’t place too much pressure on DeVonta.
This will be a conversation that continues until the free-agency frenzy, but here’s what we know currently. Smith-Schuster would love another opportunity to prove himself, the Birds could use his help, and with his blocking prowess, his addition gives the Eagles a boost in the running and passing game if they’re interested. Only time will tell if they are.
