With the final days of February trickling away, the next NFL Scouting Combine and free-agency frenzy near. The Philadelphia Eagles‘ current roster needs seemingly mirror those of every other offseason. Expect to hear a lot of discussions about wide receivers, cornerbacks, EDGE talent, and safeties.

It wouldn’t be the NFL offseason if we didn’t try our hand at forecasting what might occur, and with 31 NFL franchises looking to replace the Los Angeles Rams as the last team standing, rumors about every organization and a talented group of impending free agents are sure to dominate the headlines. As a matter of fact, it’s already started. Just take a recent write-up by Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox for instance.

Jordan Whitehead is linked to the Philadelphia Eagles.

As free-agency rumors swirl, Knox’s theory, in his recent take on the top ten impending free agents and where they might land, is very intriguing. He links the Eagles to one of the NFL’s best young safeties, Jordan Whitehead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Here’s what he had to say on the subject.

"The Philadelphia Eagles could be a prime target for Whitehead. Philadelphia ranked 11th in passing yards allowed and 14th in yards surrendered per pass attempt. However, starters Rodney McLeod and Anthony Harris are both set to become free agents. The Eagles are projected to have $22.4 million in cap space and can afford to spend to shore up the back end of their defense."

It isn’t uncommon to see the Birds invest in safety help during the free-agency signing period. In 2021, Anthony Harris and Andrew Adams were among the highlights (they also signed Obi Melifonwu and Blake Countess at one point). This after they signed Will Parks in 2020 and both Johnathan Cyprien and Andrew Sendejo in 2019.

During his first four seasons in the NFL, Jordan Whitehead has appeared in 65 games with 61starts. 314 total tackles, two sacks, five interceptions, 26 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries are the results of his efforts. Those numbers include what he’s done in the playoffs.

He also has a Super Bowl ring, and for an Eagles squad with a nice mix of veterans who have done the same and some skilled young stars who are learning how to win, that type of experience would be invaluable. Put an asterisk by this one. It could be a nice conversation piece as we move towards the middle of March.
