Eagles could have trade partner for Gardner Minshew in NFC South team
It wouldn’t be an NFL offseason if we didn’t rack our brains while making guesses on where some of the well-known stars might end up. It’s also commonplace that we engage in discussions about ten or more potential free agents annually on the Philadelphia Eagles roster.
Nothing moves the needle like draft rumors, contract negotiations, and trade rumors involving quarterbacks though. Philly has seen its name in the headlines as QB1, Jalen Hurts, and his backup, Gardner Minshew, have both been the subject of trade rumors. Though we can’t guarantee this, it would seem like Minshew would be the more logical player to move on from.
You never know though. Again, all we can do is speculate, but if you’re one of those people who feel as though you’ve grown weary of the conversation already, try to hang in there because it isn’t going away.
NFL Network’s James Palmer names Panthers as possible Eagles trade partner.
Though trades rarely happen in the NFL, they’re a ton of fun to talk about. Though it’s easy to dismiss Gardner Minshew’s win in East Rutherford this past season by saying ‘it’s the Jets’, QB2 proved that the door hasn’t slammed shut on his NFL career yet. There’s still a chance for at least one more run of ‘Minshew Mania’.
For a team that’s looking to bolster itself at several positions, many believe that, if the Eagles upgrade their roster, they’ll do so by trading him. That’s led us to discuss possible landing spots in 2022 as well as teams that we can add to a list of destinations that we can rule out.
If you’ll remember, the Carolina Panthers were on our list of possible interested parties, mostly because of Minshew’s connection to Panthers offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo (he was Gardner’sQB coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars).
Recently, NFL Network’s James Palmer highlighted a list of several QBs Carolina could be in the market for this offseason. He made an appearance on a recent episode of NFL Now, and if you missed that one, here’s some of what he had to say on the subject.
"This is interesting, Gardner Minshew could be someone that you can also hear, maybe coming in to compete with Sam Darnold. (He’s) a guy, remember, who they (Carolina) had interest in last year when Darnold got hurt and made some calls to Philadelphia. They’re looking at everything."
Palmer is, indeed, correct. The Panthers inquired about Minshew during the most recent NFL season. Seeing as how the Panthers didn’t get the results that they wanted from Sam Darnold and the best part about Cam Newton’s return was when he removed his helmet and screamed “I’m back” at the cameras (which resulted in a penalty), no one should rule out any possibility of Carolina having serious interest in Minshew this past offseason.
Keep an eye on this one. ‘Minshew Mania’ in Charlotte, North Carolina makes sense. They need someone to breathe life into that franchise, and they need that to happen sooner rather than later.
