The Eagles could find EDGE help by fishing in a pool of cap casualties.

Football is a simple game if you don’t overthink things. You find a coach and a quarterback. Then, you find five guys to put in front of that quarterback to keep him upright. That’s an oversimplification of how difficult that task can be sometimes (just look at what the Philadelphia Eagles went through with guys like Carson Wentz and Chip Kelly). You get the idea though. You have to figure out those key positions on the roster first.

Then, once you do that, you identify some key areas to beef up on the defensive side of the ball, beginning at the EDGE. Now, that you have your QB, his protection, and your coach, you have to find guys to make the opposing team’s quarterback have some bad Sundays. Philly’s got some work to do as we enter the month of March.

The Eagles thought they had an answer with the addition of Ryan Kerrigan last offseason. The move didn’t work out, and that’s putting things mildly. There’s some young talent on the roster in Josh Sweat and Tarron Jackson. Brandon Graham will probably be welcomed back if he wants to return, but the Birds still need another piece or two.

Finding one in the NFL Draft is an option. Landing one in free agency is another, but if Philly explores the landscape of potential cap casualties, there will be some options there as well. Here are six that come to mind immediately.
