Za’Darius Smith doesn’t fit the Eagles scheme perfectly, but this could work.

You can ingest a lot of football, and you won’t see many guys with more natural talent than Za’Darius Smith. Now, we have to weigh a few things.

He isn’t the perfect scheme fit for Philly’s defense. The Green Bay Packers actually lined him up at outside linebacker, and the Eagles will need him to play with his hand in the dirt. If you’re a defensive coordinator, and you can’t find a role for someone like this guy though, you may want to alter the scheme somewhat to fit him in. That is if he’s healthy.

Smith turns 30 years young on September 8th, which to some makes players eligible for the NFL’s version of social security. You also have to factor in that he’s coming off of a back injury that nagged him throughout the 2021 preseason and kept him out of every regular season game minus Green Bay’s first. He could wind up being someone The Pack moves on from though. That means two things if you’re the Philadelphia Eagles.

One, you have the opportunity to upgrade a position need. Second, you have the possibility of doing so without breaking the bank.

This isn’t something you should look at as being the Eagles best or most perfect option, but it is an option. We’ll have to wait and see if anything comes from it.
