The Eagles have pieces at wide receiver but still need help at the position.

In the end, it didn’t matter much. It didn’t put a checkmark in the win column, and it wouldn’t have counted towards the 2021 total if it did. Still, no Philadelphia Eagles fan will forget that feeling they had when Quez Watkins took a short screen pass from Joe Flacco, turned upfield, and didn’t stop running until he was in the end zone 79 yards later.

Quez’s big play was one of the most exciting things we saw from the Birds on offense all season. Unfortunately, we’re talking about a preseason game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, so this one isn’t a part of his NFL portfolio.

As the Eagles prepare for year two of the Nick Sirianni experience, Watkins, once seen as a sixth-round gamble, is one of the guys the Birds are expecting a lot out of. He and DeVonta Smith are the best players Philly has at the wideout position, but they’ll need help in the coming campaign.

Howie Roseman and company will, no doubt, exercise every option they have in upgrading the position. They’ll consider the NFL Draft’s prospects. They’ll watch the trade block and explore free agency. In terms of that latter option, everyone knows that fishing in free agency’s pool can be a crapshoot.

Here’s a list of five guys that could provide high rewards despite also being risky. If the Birds want to visit the blackjack table and roll the dice, they could be worth the gamble.
