Eagles rumors: Russell Wilson wants to stay on the West Coast

We won’t call it the death blow yet. Everyone riding the ‘get Russell Wilson in a Philadelphia Eagles by any means necessary’ train won’t be pleased with some of his comments made during a recent interview though.

The nine-time Pro Bowler hung out with Craig Melvin on The Today Show, and on the subject of possibly leaving the Pacific Northwest to play some ball on the east coast, he specifically answered Melvin’s question about joining the Washington Commanders by stating “I love the East Coast, but I think the West Coast is better for me right now”.

He also lamented some of the same hot garbage we heard him spew since the rumors about his exit from the Seattle Seahawks began.

"I’m from Richmond. I know what you mean. I got people hitting me up every day, all my friends and all that from the East Coast, but Seattle’s the place I’m at right now and I love it."

Okay Russ, whatever. How come you’ve never directly answered the question about staying in Seattle? How come you’ve never come out publicly and ended the rumors about a potential trade?

That isn’t meant to bash the man. We all know how the game is played but come on dude. Let’s be serious.

Don’t rule out the possibility of the Eagles landing Russell Wilson yet.

If you’ve been waking up from dreams about Wilson taking snaps from Jason Kelce, this is probably upsetting news. Don’t give up hope if you have some though. Russ is, for lack of a better term, tripping.

Sure, Wilson has the final say on where he’d end up thanks to a full no-trade clause he has in his deal. He’s also been quoted as saying he’s most interested in playing for the New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders, Chicago Bears, and Dallas Cowboys. We’ve seen players say one thing and do the opposite of what they’ve said quite often though.

There’s also something else to make note of. Unless he’s interested in possibly battling Trey Lance for a starting role in San Francisco with the 49ers, he might be upset by the news that most of the NFL’s west-coast teams have their quarterback.

Aaron Murray could leave the Arizona Cardinals. Colorado technically isn’t on the west coast, but that job appears to be available. That is if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t reunite with his former offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett, now the head man in Denver with the Broncos.

It hasn’t been that long since we’ve taken geography, but unless something happened that we haven’t accounted for, Dallas isn’t in the western part of the country either (they also have their QB). Neither is Chicago or New Orleans. There’s also the Ciara factor (Russell’s wife). Don’t believe, for one second, that she won’t have a say in this.

Heck who’s to say that wouldn’t put Atlanta in the running? That’s never been said. It’s just a thought. All we’re saying is this though. Russ is a smart guy, and no one truly knows what he’s thinking but him… and Ciara.

Trending. Potential cap casualties Eagles can target at EDGE. light

This is a long way from being over, but unless he’s willing to open himself up to some east-coast options, he might wind up staying in Seattle. There’s no guarantee he lands in Philly either, and if he does, it will cost the Eagles a pretty penny, one you have to ask whether or not they might decide they’d rather not pay.

The middle of March approaches. Time’s ticking, but as we enter workouts for another NFL Scouting Combine, the Eagles appear to be an afterthought in the Russell Wilson sweepstakes.
