Better options for the Eagles than acquiring Amari Cooper
How realistic is the possibility of the Eagles landing Amari Cooper?
News travels fast, huh? It couldn’t have been more than ten minutes after ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced via his Twitter account that the Dallas Cowboys were likely to release Amari Cooper that various members of the Philadelphia Eagles Twitterverse took to their own timelines to discuss the likelihood of him landing in the City of Brotherly Love.
Take a look at the stat gurus over at Pro Football Focus.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys’ plan is to trade Coop. If they can’t, they’ll more than likely, release prior to the fifth day of the new league year. That second option appears to be the most realistic. It’s hard to imagine anyone electing to take on that massive salary.
Frankly, the Cowboys’ decision shouldn’t shock anyone, though someone could make the argument that releasing Ezekiel Elliott is the better idea. Coop was set to earn $20 million in 2022, and though ‘scrub’ isn’t a word we’d use to describe where he ranks when compared to his peers, he definitely hasn’t proven to be elite in big games.
Recently, Inside The Iggles released a list of possible cap casualties the Eagles can target at wide receiver. Sure, we threw Cooper’s name out there, but sometimes, you have to call a timeout to allow the officials to watch the replay. Upon further review, we have a few ideas we like better.
There are about ten that we could mention, but for the sake of time, here are four obvious theories the Birds should explore before they give any serious thought to adding Amari Cooper to upgrade their wide receiver position.
