What is plan B if the Philadelphia Eagles trade Gardner Minshew?

First of all, no one’s saying, beyond the shadow of any doubt, that the Gardner Minshew will be traded this offseason. That discussion deserves its own platform. Minshew is still on a dirt-cheap rookie contract. He represented an $850,000 cap hit in 2021 and will represent another $2.5 million in 2022. The Philadelphia Eagles will likely need an offer they can’t refuse to move him, but with the weak QB market this offseason, it’s possible that some teams will get desperate and make a move.

If the Eagles get the value they desire in return for him, they’ll need to find a replacement. Reid Sinnett had some impressive tape in the preseason in Miami and has the frame for the position (six-foot-four, 225 pounds); however, that obviously won’t be enough to make the Eagles believe that they can hand him the reigns to their backup position.

It would also obviously be a mistake to do so just off of what we’ve been able to evaluate during preseason games. He may develop into a high-quality backup down the road but now is not that time. Until we know more about Sinnett, it’s safe to say there are plenty of better options available in free agency.

From signing Chase Daniel for $7 million per year to bringing Nick Foles back to trading for Minshew, Philly has always made this position a priority. We didn’t even mention names like Jeff Garcia, Vince Young, Mark Sanchez, and more that played in this city over the years.

The first wave of free agency is quickly approaching, so let’s take a look at some of the solid options that may not be dominating the headlines. To preface, names such as Jameis Winston, Teddy Bridgewater, Marcus Mariota will be discluded due to their potential price tags and value as starting or bridge quarterbacks.
