Under-the-radar free-agent QBs Philadelphia Eagles should consider, avoid

This would feel a lot like the Josh McCown signing. McCown had much more experience as a starter, but he was also a 40-year-old journeyman who signed for $2 million circa 2019.
Colt McCoy has never signed for more than $3.2 million AAV. He helped the Cardinals to a couple of key wins midseason versus the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, posting an impressive 2-1 mark overall when thrust into starting duty.
In 2020, he helped the New York Giants to an upset over Seattle in a low-scoring affair. The Colt McCoy game I always remember is his 2014 Monday Night Football win in overtime against the Dallas Cowboys.
This is someone who is willing to take his check-down and play it safe. That can lead to wins with the right supporting cast, but don’t be fooled. He’s also had some pretty horrendous showings over the years including this year’s loss to the Carolina Panthers, a game that was embarrassing to say the least.
McCoy is a relatively inexpensive option for a reason. If the Eagles traded Minshew and struggled to find a better option, he’d be a solid fallback option. Verdict: Signing him to a cheap one-year deal makes sense but anything more than that is inadvisable.
