We all had our theories about what may or may not happen as the free-agency frenzy approached. We discussed everything from whether or not we should officially remove Deshaun Watson from the Philadelphia Eagles offseason wish list to how aggressive the Birds should be in pursuing various players at positions of need, but here’s something no one said.

Christian Kirk will help reset the market for the NFL’s best wide receivers’. We didn’t say that because we didn’t need to. Kirk’s best season came last year when he hauled in 77 passes for 982 yards and he reached the end zone five times. At best, we all believed Kirk would be a second-tier wideout on the list of available free agents at the position, yet here we are.

Kirk didn’t just help in resetting the market. He’s now among the NFL’s top wideouts in terms of annual dollars per season. Folks, we have a lot to talk about, but before we do so, how about a hand for his agent? Why isn’t everyone firing their current team and signing on with his?

We’re just kidding of course… sort of…

Two of the game’s best, Eagles star Darius Slay and Jalen Ramsey have a little fun on Twitter.

As mentioned, Kirk’s new deal (four years, $72 million) makes him a very wealthy man. Check this one out.

It isn’t strange to see NFL stars hanging out on Twitter and sharing their reactions as well as a few congratulatory posts when their peers are cashing in. Darius Slay, perhaps the most entertaining follow of any Eagles player on any social media platform, was dishing out a few high-fives as was another of the NFL’s best cornerbacks, Jalen Ramsey.

As you might imagine, Kirk’s new deal caught both of their attention as well as the attention of a few other stars.

Okay, that helps out a lot. We thought we were the only people who were scratching our heads about this.

Naturally, both guys were kidding. ‘Hating’, as they say, isn’t in either guy’s DNA, but come on. Let’s be honest here. Kirk? 72 million? None of us saw that coming.

Howie's best free-agent signings as Eagles GM. light. Trending

Only two things need to be said. One, congratulations to Christian Kirk. It’s free agency, and these things happen sometimes. No one can be angry with him for cashing in; however, this is our second point before we bring this one to its finish line.

We’re so glad Howie Roseman backed away from the negotiating table when he did. That’s definitely a deal the Eagles couldn’t afford to sign on for (pun intended). Oh well. Good luck with that one Jacksonville. Something tells us that this is one of those moves we’ll be talking about forever if it doesn’t work out.
