Philadelphia Eagles best free-agent signings under Howie Roseman
The lone Super Bowl MVP in Eagles franchise history tops our list.
If any signing of any free agent winds up with that guy hammering down the title of ‘Super Bowl MVP’ at some point of his tenure with the team, he automatically gets a mention on a list like this. As you’re well aware, only one man in the history of Earth has ever earned that distinction with the Birds.
Sure, this was Nick Foles‘ second stint with the team, but we sure had some fun, didn’t we?
What happened to Nick in 2017 (signing on as the backup and eventually rising to the starter’s chair to lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl win), is a story so magical that Hollywood studios might decline it for being unrealistic.
Sure, Jeff Hostetler’s tale is similar, but what Nick did was a supercharged version. Foles didn’t just lead the Eagles to the mountaintop. He raised the Vince Lombardi Trophy after toppling the greatest quarterback, the greatest coach, and the greatest dynasty in NFL history. His story is among the greatest sports stories ever told.
Sure, we would have celebrated had Philly beaten the Jacksonville Jaguars, but that story doesn’t have the same pop does it?
One year after winning it all, history almost repeated itself. Foles took over for an injured Carson Wentz again, and he led the Birds to within a few plays of making a second-consecutive NFC Championship Game.
His teammates loved him, so much so that they built a shrine in his locker after he left. Foles might be remembered as a journeyman who only saw success in Philadelphia, but around these parts, he’s a legend. There’s only one Saint Nick in the hearts of Eagles fans, and it isn’t the one they booed many moons ago.
