RB. Philadelphia Eagles. Boston Scott. 35. player. 54.

The Eagles have signed Boston Scott to a one-year extension.

Since his promotion from the practice squad in 2019, Boston Scott has been the Eagles’ reliable change of pace back. Philadelphia did not place an RFA tender on him at the beginning of the offseason, so he entered free agency. He’s back now as the Eagles announce they’re inking him and Fletcher Cox to one-year deals.

The ‘Giant Slayer’ has certainly had his fair share of big moments in the midnight green. His vision and feel for where the holes will open have been a big part of his productivity.

At times, he has been asked to be the lead back or share snaps in a 1A-1B situation with either Miles Sanders or Jordan Howard. In such situations, he has been more than dependable.

Despite his size, he has become an effective goalline running back as he found the endzone seven times this season. Not only that but he hasn’t missed a game due to injury during his time as an Eagle.

Another team could have used Scott’s skillset in their running back room. Kenneth Gainwell has the potential to be unlocked as a runner, receiver, and pass protector, and even though some would have been fine with Philadelphia moving in a different direction, Scott’s durability may have given him a better shot at returning than Jordan Howard.

We wouldn’t have liked it, but we wouldn’t have been shocked if the Eagles would have let Boston walk. They announced on March 19th, however, that they’re doing the opposite.
