Dissecting every Eagles unrestricted free agent: Might anyone return?
By Hunter Doyle
Is it worth it for the Eagles to invest another year in Anthony Harris?
When the Eagles signed Anthony Harris, he was just one year removed from an elite 2019 season. 2020 did not go as planned but the Vikings’ secondary struggled as a whole. Maybe expectations were too high in 2021, but Harris certainly didn’t return to his 2019 form.
There were a few big plays that were given up on the back end which Harris was partially responsible for. For the most part, he helped out in the underneath pass game and the run game. On the year, he missed just two tackles.
Unlike his years in Minnesota, he may have to get used to doing more work underneath or in two-high safety sets rather than playing the centerfield role at this point in his career. Harris has scheme familiarity with Gannon, and that should serve him well as he’s earned himself another year in the midnight green.
If the person in front of him better fits what Gannon wants to do in year two, he may be more productive; however, when choosing between the two safeties, McLeod was more impactful last year. He’ll likely be cheaper as well.
Harris’ spot could have been filled with a younger name in free agency. We’ll see what the Eagles do in the draft now because Harris is getting another run in the City of Brotherly Love.
