Ranking Eagles top draft prospects at safety (once Kyle Hamilton is taken)
Yusuf Corker and Kerby Joseph should already be on the Eagles’ radar.
Former Kentucky Wildcats standout Yusuf Corker has gone from being a talented SEC prospect that wasn’t overly impressive to becoming one of the best prospects entering April’s NFL Draft. He’s gotten both second and third-day grades, but the belief is, at the moment, he’s on track to be a backup/special teamer who could grow into a starter if he lands with a team that can coach him appropriately.
Dennard Wilson, Philly’s defensive backs coach is one of the best in the business. The jury is still out on Jonathan Gannon, but all things considered, the Eagles have the staff to get him where he needs to go if he winds up in the City of Brotherly Love.
Like the aforementioned Bryan Cook, you have to wonder if labels like ‘one-year wonder’ will be heaped upon the broad shoulders of former Illinois Fighting Illini standout Kerby Joseph. The latter’s first three seasons in the Big Ten from 2018 to 2020 were pretty quiet as he was only able to muster 59 tackles and four pass breakups in 19 career in-game appearances.
Thankfully, his final ride in Champaign was one to remember. He added 57 total tackles, a sack, five interceptions, and two pass breakups to the cause en route to a First-Team All-Big Ten nod. Now, he’s on every NFL team’s radars as one of the ten best safeties in this draft class.
