The Eagles were wise to avoid a bidding war with the Jaguars.

As soon as Christian Kirk inked a four-year, $72 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, we were inundated with stories about the Philadelphia Eagles being at the negotiating table and attempting to land him. Be thankful that they didn’t get into a bidding war with the Jags or anyone else that pushed his price tag to the astronomical number he’ll now be earning.

With all due respect, Kirk is good, but he isn’t that good. At best, he should be viewed as a second option at wide receiver.

Once we began watching the top players in free agency sign with other teams, it became obvious that Philly’s best bet is to now add someone like Chis Olave or Treylon Burks in Round 1 (as much as we’d have to see this team draft another wideout in Round 1). If they don’t do that, adding a wideout at a discount after the selection meeting could be another option.

Both of those options are better than overspending on Kirk. There’s no shade this way though. Give his agent a high-five for getting his guy a huge payday.
