Here we go again. The Philadelphia Eagles keep telling us the same thing over and over, and we refuse to listen. Jalen Hurts is this team’s quarterback. Why do we know that and continue to be stubborn?

It appears the Eagles are out on Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett… we think. We’ve been told of Philly’s commitment to QB1 over and over again, and this time we believe them. The rumors never seem to end with these Eagles, but they must. We have to move on and talk about other things.

Nothing gets people talking like conspiracy theories at the quarterback position though. Consider this the attempt to close the book on at least two of them, but first, let’s board our time traveling machines and get some of you caught up.

We’ve been talking about Jalen Hurts’ job security for months, even after head coach Nick Sirianni told us that Hurts was the guy in no uncertain terms. Vice president/general manager Howie Roseman did the same thing on more than one occasion. Nothing seems to matter though.

Every chance we get, we’re talking about Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson and those first-round prospects in the coming NFL Draft. We’ve even seen several sources we trust go back and forth about whether or not this team could have landed Aaron Rodgers. Remember that?

Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie spoke to Howie before any of this happened, and he stated that he desired that his team add talent to build around QB1. That seems to be the best course of action at this point. After all, Russ wanted to go to Denver, and there was no way that Philly was going to give up everything that the Cleveland Browns gave up to get Watson.

So with Carson Wentz’s Wagon now sputtering into our nation’s capital and with Gardner Minshew being the backup option, it appears the Eagles’ best choice is to, again, hitch their own wagon to Jalen Hurts for another 18-week, 17-game regular season. Again, that’s what they kept telling us that they were going to do in the first place.

It appears we can shut the door on Eagles rumors involving Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett.

You’ve probably been wondering when we were going to get to those theories involving the possibility of drafting someone, right? If Jalen Hurts’ spot on this team hasn’t taught us anything else, we’ve learned that no quarterback’s job is ever safe.

If you remember, the Eagles had just backed the Brinks truck up to Wentz’s doorstep before they took Jalen in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. That wasn’t the first time that’s happened. Think back to the time when Donovan McNabb was firmly entrenched as the starter and the Birds took Kevin Kolb in the second round of 2007’s NFL Draft. Dare we say that’s the day the ‘quarterback factory’ began?

Regardless of where you are on all of this, Howie Roseman reaffirmed that this team stands behind QB1. While attending the Annual League Meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, everyone’s favorite G.M. met with the media, and again, he doubled down on his support for Jalen. Thank Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice staff for the quote.

"I don’t know that we’ve ever wavered from the level of commitment that we have had in Jalen, so I think when we say ‘He’s our guy,’ and ‘He’s our starter,’ and ‘We believe in him’. We (have) to do whatever we can to help him and give him a chance to reach his potential. I don’t think that has changed one bit."

We know there’s been some obvious intrigue with Liberty’s Malik Willis, and we’ve discussed that since Howie attended the most recent Senior Bowl. We know the Eagles brass took Kenny Pickett to dinner. We also know that both young men shined at their respective Pro Days. Heck, one of the all-time greats, Peter King even suggested the possibility of Philadelphia trading up to take Willis.

We don’t know about that one. We can rule out the possibility of there being serious interest from the Eagles right? No, that’s a serious question.

Jalen is firmly entrenched as this team’s starting signal-caller as he should be, so we can remove all doubt that any other action that we see resembling enamorment is nothing more than ‘due diligence’ right? Why is it that we can’t do it then?

Oh well. The rumors and theories continue. The debates are heating up and becoming more lengthy. Expect these conversations to continue until the draft’s first night and Pickett and Willis are both off of the board, or the Eagles have exhausted all three of their first-round choices on other prospects (or both).
