Ranking underrated, sub-30 free agents Eagles should still consider
With the Philadelphia Eagles, there will always be discussions about defense.
Even after the first wave of free agency, Terrell Edmunds wasn’t able to crack the top 50 on Pro Football Focus’ list of the best free agents that are still available. He’s still worth a mention, especially seeing as how he started all 17 regular-season games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 (and 60 of the 64 games he’s appeared in during his young four-year career.
He isn’t necessarily the ballhawk that Birds fans want patrolling the backend of the secondary, but he isn’t a liability either. There are better options at safety if Philadelphia wants to spend the money (Kareem Jackson, Tyrann Mathieu), but if they want a little bang for their buck and don’t want to break the bank, Edmunds is a nice option.
Despite their tussle with the San Francisco 49ers during Week 2 of the most recent NFL regular season, the Eagles were robbed of a chance to see, up close and personal, what Maurice Hurst could do. Hurst didn’t play during the first three games of the Niners season. He was inactive from Week 7 on as he found his way to the injured reserve on September 1st.
He was reactivated on October 2nd but still didn’t play in any games. Hurst turns 27 years young on May 9th, but at this point of his career, he’s proven to be a better pass rusher than a run defender. If allowed to play rotationally on third downs here and there, he could prove to be a valuable addition.
