The Eagles can’t allow Jalen Reagor and JJ Arcega-Whiteside’s failure to influence the 2022 draft strategy.

Obviously, you can see that there are parallels with this Eagles team. Since 2017, they’ve drafted seven wide receivers. In 2019, they took one in Round 2 (J.J. Arcega-Whiteside). They’ve taken a wide receiver in the first round during each of the last two NFL Drafts. Only one of those guys is a star (DeVonta Smith).

So, here we are. Another NFL Draft approaches, and the Eagles still need help at wide receiver, much like the Lions needed help at wideout 15 years ago. It was believed that they’d attempt to land one in free agency. They didn’t which makes the possibility of them adding one in the coming draft very possible. The question is this. How early should they pull the trigger?

With two of the top 18 first-round selections, some say they should invest heavily in upgrading their defensive unit. Some say they should trade a first-round draft choice and add more picks. Others still say that they should add another difference-maker at wideout if they’re presented with the opportunity to take one. Depending on what mock draft you might be checking out, the Eagles have been linked to Chris Olave, Drake London, Jameson Williams, and Treylon Burks at one time or another.

Their history suggests that taking a wideout is the worst thing the Eagles can do. Thinking about a similar decision that the Lions had to make once suggests something else entirely.

The Philadelphia Eagles can’t base the current draft strategy on past results. If a sure thing at the wide receiver position is available at 15 or 18, the Eagles absolutely have to add him. Missing on Jalen Reagor and JJAW can’t be the reason for refusing to do so.

On another note, here’s one more question that has nothing to do with the Philadelphia Eagles at all. How is it possible that Megatron didn’t make the Pro Bowl in each of his nine NFL seasons? He made six consecutive Pro Bowls from 2010 to 2015. What in the world was going on with those first three years?
