So much for the Philadelphia Eagles’ commitment to Jalen Hurts, huh?

It didn’t matter how many times we heard them say it. It didn’t matter whether it was Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni uttering the words or the executive vice president/general manager, Howie Roseman. It feels like we’ve heard “Jalen Hurts is our quarterback” at least five to ten times since February.

No one lied to us. We don’t think that Nick and Howie didn’t mean what they said. We just knew that there was more to the story.

If you’ll remember, we were also told that every position on the team was under evaluation. That’s how the construction of the 2022 roster should be handled. This team has only been able to muster nine-win seasons in three of the four regular-season campaigns that followed 2017’s march to the Vince Lombardi Trophy. That isn’t all Hurts’ fault, but unfortunately, when you play the game’s most important position, your performance is always being scrutinized.

Playing quarterback in the NFL isn’t nor will it ever be a lifetime assignment. That’s what Carson Wentz thought. He thought the job should have been gift-wrapped regardless of how poorly he played. Hurts took over. Carson got his feelings hurt and decided he didn’t want to fight to get his job back.

Hurts is a competitor. There’s no denying that. He knows he’s auditioning for his job again in 2022. The question is this. Are the Eagles helping him by giving him a fair shot? Here are three reasons to believe that they aren’t.
