Former Alabama receiver to visit Eagles (and you should be thrilled)

We’ve all thrown the idea out (and debated conflicting theories while hanging out with family and friends). Trusted voices have stated that any discussion involving the Philadelphia Eagles taking a wide receiver in Round 1 of the next NFL Draft is ridiculous. Meanwhile, draft pundits have taken a different stance.

Some of the more-well known experts at many of the sports stations we wake up to have gone the route of sending a wide receiver to the City of Brotherly Love in every mock they’ve ever written. That’s often led to more debate.

During the pre-draft process, we’ve seen dots connected between the Eagles and everyone from Drake London (USC Trojans) to Chris Olave (Ohio State Buckeyes). Recently, we’ve heard of another theory.

Former Alabama Crimson Tide receiver Jameson Williams is seeing his name connected to the Eagles more often these days. By the looks of things, this isn’t a theory that Philadelphia is opposed to pondering.

Jameson Williams will visit the Philadelphia Eagles on a pre-draft top-30 visit.

According to Josh Norris, the Philadelphia Eagles are hosting Williams at the NovaCare Complex during one of their top-30 visits. Take a look.

Williams, a six-foot-two, 189-pound Saint Louis native stacked 79 receptions for 1,572 yards and reached the end zone 15 times in 2021 after sitting behind the likes of Jaylen Waddle, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, and current Eagle DeVonta Smith during the 2019 and 2020 college football seasons.

His NCAA career may not have ended in the manner that he would have liked, with a torn ACL in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game and a subsequent loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, but he’ll be on everyone’s big board as one of the top five wide receivers entering the draft.

If drafting a wide receiver in Round 1 is in play for the Philadelphia Eagles, Williams is absolutely someone they should consider. The news of this visit is exciting and you should be thrilled that it’s happening.

You should be thrilled for two reasons though. The second is this. If there are still concerns about an injury that occurred a little over three months ago, this visit will allow the doctors that the Eagles organization has in-house to evaluate where he is from a physical standpoint. That’s major.

Williams is yet another phenomenal talent from Alabama, and it wasn’t that long ago that Birds fans were discussing the Eagles’ tendency to ignore one of the NFL’s best farm systems when looking for talented prospects to stock their roster’s cupboards.

After all, if you’re going to find future stars and perennial Pro Bowlers, it would make sense to find some at a football program that churns them out with machine-like efficiency, right?

Trending. One less-mentioned WR for every draft round. light

Prior to last year’s selection meeting, it had been 19 years since Philly used a draft choice on a member of The Tide. That was Freddie Milons in 2002. Yeah, Freddie didn’t work out, but the Eagles’ first two selections in 2021 appear to be on the right track to becoming nice young cornerstones (the aforementioned Smith and offensive lineman Landon Dickerson).

Perhaps you’ve heard, but Philadelphia’s QB1 of the moment, Jalen Hurts, cut his teeth in Tuscaloosa as well. Might all three be campaigning for Jameson Williams’ addition to the nest? We won’t have to wait too much longer to see how things play out.
