It’s beginning to look like the Eagles will take a wide receiver in Round 1.

Before taking a look at the following list, please make sure that you’re sitting down. Here’s who the Philadelphia Eagles would start training camp with as their wide receivers if nothing changed between now and then: DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, Jalen Reagor, Devon Allen, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Greg Ward, Zach Pascal, Deon Cain, and John Hightower.

We like Smith and Watkins a lot. We really do. Ward can be really good if used appropriately, but Aaron Moorehead is the position coach here. We’ve been very critical of him and for good reason, but so far, nothing is being done in terms of replacing him with someone else.

So, here we are. Veteran wideouts regress under Moorehead’s watch, and the young guys don’t improve. It’s easy to ask if Smith’s above-average rookie season was the result of good coaching or God-given ability. Something tells us it was the latter.

As the NFL Draft nears, we’re certain of two things. One, DeVonta needs help, and second, there’s a growing theory that Philadelphia may take a wide receiver in Round 1 for the third straight year. Let’s stack them one more time. Here’s a ranking of every potential first-round wide receiver prospect worth pairing with DeVonta Smith.
