Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa couldn’t be any more similar (or different)

Who will remain starting quarterback in the future, Eagles Hurts or Miami’s Tua?

As you’re well aware, Jalen Hurts will be the Philadelphia Eagles‘ starting quarterback during the upcoming 2022-2023 NFL season. The question is will he be the long-term answer going forward? Since the former second-round selection has entered the league, he’s endured criticism and questions about whether he can be a long-term answer.

Hurts’ situation isn’t that much different from what his former Alabama Crimson Tide teammate, Tua Tagovailoa, is experiencing with the Miami Dolphins in South Florida.

Tua was a first-round pick in 2020. Those guys are expected to deliver right away, and while he’s shown glimpses, there haven’t been enough of them for his team to believe he’s the right guy to lead the Dolphins into the future.

How are the two quarterback’s situations similar? Both of them are currently playing for a coach that didn’t draft them which could mean there isn’t any real loyalty to them.

Both, despite being on their rookie deals are playing as though they’re on one-year prove-it deals. There’s also this theory that both Philadelphia and Miami are positioning themselves to take signal-callers in the 2023 NFL Draft if this doesn’t work out.

Jalen and Tua have some varying circumstances in their journeys. Hurts has a leg up on Tua in that he’s already led his team to the postseason. Tua has an advantage in knowing that his offensive supporting cast is more heavily stacked. They just added wide receiver Tyreek Hill to pair with Jaylen Waddle and Mike Gesicki.

Hurts has some weapons, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Godert for instance, but the team still needs another explosive wide receiver that can help open up the offense more.
