player. Guard/Tackle. 124. Tennessee Volunteers. Cade Mays. 839. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

The Eagles can’t be fooled by late-rounders masquerading as mid-rounders.

The Eagles have the best offensive line in the entire NFL, and outside of a mini-snafu with Andre Dillard’s selection, they got there by drafting well (Jack Driscoll, Jordan Mailata, and Landon Dickerson). They have solid depth there now, and the position coach is the best in the business, Jeff Stoutland.

It wouldn’t hurt to add a body though, especially if that guy can play multiple positions. Here’s the thing. Once we reach Round 4, guys like Cade Mays will be a part of the discussion, but don’t be fooled by the hype.

He’s probably a much better option to come off of the board in Round 6 or Round 7. His selection might wind up being a recommendation earlier, but this would be a reach at 124. He’s probably a reach at 154 as well despite getting fourth and fifth-round grades.

Other interior linemen we expect to be around in Round 4 are just better. Throw guys like Josh Rivas (Kansas State), Aaron Frost (Nevada), and Xavier Newman-Johnson (Baylor) in that discussion.

Pro Football Focus, on their draft board, listed him as a tackle, as their 25th-ranked tackle, and the 213th-ranked player overall. Sure, he played right tackle for the Tennessee Volunteers. Make no mistake about it though. He doesn’t have the athleticism to battle elite edge rushers at the professional level. He’ll wind up as an interior offensive lineman in the NFL.
