Don’t rule out the possibility of the Philadelphia Eagles waving the magic wand in the first round of the NFL Draft.

The Philadelphia Eagles always keep us on our toes, don’t they? We’ve gone from beating ourselves on the chest because they had three first-round draft choices to watching them, in essence, defer one of them to 2023 and add juggle a few more thanks to a colossal trade with the New Orleans Saints. As if that didn’t give us enough to talk about, we’ve heard all kinds of theories since then.

One involved packaging both of the remaining first-round picks to move up in the coming NFL Draft to take a young man widely regarded as a generational talent. If Ahmad Gardner wound up falling out of the top five, and Philly could get him, they’d be in business. That would also satisfy one of the largest positional needs on the roster.

Now, we’ll be honest. Though we love the guys we first heard mention that theory, Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan of the Inside The Birds podcast, we’d much rather see Philly stay put at 15 and 18 and land two players.

After all, as brilliant as he is, adding Sauce isn’t going to cure the Eagles’ problems overnight. They would have a better chance of improving the roster if they took two blue-chippers instead of one, right?

Here’s an idea though. What if they could package a second-rounder, a former first-rounder, and a couple of other picks and wind up with Gardner anyway? It’s a long shot, but it could work. That’s just the first of two trade ideas the Eagles should consider involving both of their picks on the draft’s first night.
