Ranking Eagles top linebacker prospects ahead of 2022 NFL Draft
Might the Eagles finally break the jinx in 2022’s NFL Draft?
It doesn’t look like this will be the year either, does it? Maybe we could have thrown some serious conversation this way had the Philadelphia Eagles not put themselves into a position in which they need to draft another wide receiver in Round 1 or sometime shortly thereafter.
Perhaps, had Philly not wasted a second-round pick in 2017 on Sidney Jones or had they not waited until after the draft to find a starting corner on at least two occasions in the past five years (2017 and 2021), this team could already have a young star there who’s thriving and succeeding at the position.
Perhaps, they could have just taken a linebacker in Round 1 during previous years. Had they down so, we wouldn’t be sitting here asking ourselves for what seems like the 200th time why this team devalues the position and why they haven’t taken one during the first round of any draft since 1979.
It seemed like it might have happened when there were three picks in Round 1, but with only two now, it stands to reason the drought will continue. Oh well, it is what it is.
That being said, no one truly knows what Philly’s plans are. They may surprise. Just in case they’re considering it, here’s a final look at what we perceive to be the top prospects at the linebacker position once the selection meeting gets underway on Thursday. A shot out to Troy Andersen is in order. He sits just outside the top ten and deserves an honorable mention.
