Sub-radar, late-round NFL Draft prospects worth the Eagles attention
Philadelphia Eagles need help at cornerback. Could Zyon McCollum be an option?
Sam Houston State Bearkats star Zyon McCollum could definitely be an option in the draft whether the Eagles miss out on guys like Trent McDuffie or Derek Stingley Jr. in the first round or not. Regardless of what the Birds do early, this young man would provide a nice insurance policy in the later rounds.
This young man rose to the top of the depth chart at one of the powerhouses at the FCS level, Sam Houston State. He stands at six-foot-four. He tips the scales at 200 pounds, and he was a nightmare matchup for opposing offenses all season long during each of his college football seasons.
He ended his career at Sam Houston State having tallied 205 tackles. That includes ten tackles that resulted in a loss of yardage. Add that to 1.5 sacks, 13 interceptions, 54 pass deflections, and six forced fumbles. One of his interceptions was returned for a touchdown.
When the Bearkats needed a big play or a stop on defense, McCollum usually had a hand in making that happen.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, he ran the third-fastest 40-yard dash among cornerbacks with a blistering 4.33-second showing. He’s earned fourth and fifth-round grades among experts. The Eagles have a fourth-round choice. They have three more in the fifth.
Keep an eye out for McCollum. Things could get interesting.
