Well, we no longer have to speculate. The Philadelphia Eagles traded up to the 13th-overall selection. They add former Georgia Bulldogs standout Jordan Davis who will, no doubt, eventually replace Fletcher Cox in the starting lineup.

Here are the terms of the trade. By moving up two spots in Round 1, they moved ahead of Baltimore to allow themselves the opportunity to nab someone the Ravens most certainly wanted. They gave up the 15th, 124th, 162nd, and 166th draft choices as a result.

The Eagles make one heart smile while breaking another.

Philly is where Jordan Davis wanted to be all along it seems. He told E.J. Smith of The Philadelphia Inquirer that his mother is an Eagles fan and the City of Brotherly Love was where she was hoping he’d land. Take a look.

As you might expect, there are a few broken hearts in Baltimore. Add Calais Campbell’s name to that list. He took to Twitter to express a little frustration, but make no mistake about it. The Ravens didn’t get a slouch one spot later as Campbell laments.

There’s a lot to be excited about in terms of Davis though. In 41 career games with the Dawgs, the six-foot-six, 340-pounder racked up 90 total tackles and seven sacks. He’s the 2021 Chuck Bednarik Award Winner, the Outland Trophy Winner, a Unanimous All-American, a First-team All-SEC, and a College Football Playoff National Champion. Some view this as a steal for the Birds in every sense of the word.

Davis now joins a defensive line rotation that includes Fletcher Cox, Milton Williams, and Javon Hargrave. This is an Eagles/Howie Roseman pick in every sense of the word. You can expect to see a lot of their young rookie as the 2022-2023 NFL regular season gets underway.  He most certainly made a name for himself during the most recent NCAA football season and the NFL Scouting Combine.

Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, Philly traded their other first-round selection and got some guy named A.J. Brown. It was quite an opening night for the Birds.
