A.J. Brown is a phenomenal pickup for the Philadelphia Eagles.
We debated for weeks about whether or not it would be wise for the Philadelphia Eagles to draft another wide receiver in Round 1. Dots were connected between the franchise and everyone from Drake London and Jameson Williams to Chris Olave and, yes, even Treylon Burks.
As the selection meeting drew closer, it was believed that landing Williams was the obvious play. Many trusted voices when it comes to Eagles content believed it was a no-brainer. Williams even said he’d be open to the idea of playing alongside DeVonta Smith, lamenting that the two of them would make a fearsome duo for years to come.
The Detroit Lions made sure that wouldn’t be an option for the Birds as they traded up to the 13th-overall selection to nab the former Ohio State Buckeye/Alabama Crimson Tide star. That concluded a stretch of Round 1 where receivers would be taken during four of five selections and three straight between picks ten and twelve.
Philly responded by trading up to the 13th-overall selection to nab Jordan Davis. The announcement of a blockbuster trade came about 20 minutes later as the Birds dealt the 18th and 101st-overall selections to the Tennessee Titans to acquire A.J. Brown. He’s also been signed to a four-year extension worth $100 million with $57 million guaranteed.
Let’s just say there’s a buzz.
There isn’t a Birds fan anywhere in the Delaware Valley or anywhere else on Planet Earth that isn’t aware of what happened. Here are three reasons why this selection is an absolute home run, one that came on a day when the Phillies swept the Rockies and the 76ers eliminated the Toronto Raptors to advance to the second round of the NBA Playoffs.
