Philadelphia Eagles Day 2 Mock Draft: Adding on defense
By Hunter Doyle
Philadelphia Eagles find their CB2 in Round 3.
Last year, there was an outside corner with the frame and instincts to be a potential steal on Day 2. The staff at ITI were huge fans of Benjamin St. Juste.
Cam Taylor-Britt isn’t a clone of him but certainly has some similarities. At five-foot-eleven and 196-pounds, the Nebraska cornerback could potentially win the job opposite of Big Play Slay if he were to be selected by Philadelphia.
We’ve mentioned a number of times that it’s significant for the cornerbacks and secondary as a whole to be above-average run defenders in Gannon’s defense. Taylor-Britt brings exactly that to the table.
It’s going to be hard for opposing offenses to keep him out of the backfield. As Kyle Crabbs‘ put it, “Zone assignments that ask him to play over the top but leave room for him to jump down and get involved in run support on the perimeter will allow his best traits to be most frequently called upon.”
Down the road, he may be able to play more man with his speed, acceleration, strength, and frame. For now, it would definitely benefit him to play in a scheme like Gannon’s where he’ll be able to play more aggressively and trigger quickly knowing that he has safety help.
Even if Taylor-Britt doesn’t pan out at cornerback, he may have the traits to develop as a safety later on.
