The Eagles land a Clemson corner. It just wasn’t the one most thought they’d pursue.

The Eagles’ decision to ignore their needs at the cornerback and safety position has been criticized, and understandably so. They’ve added talent there and one of these guys could find their way onto the 53-man roster.

Mario Goodrich, Clemson Tigers (cornerback)

Statistically, some of Mario Goodrich‘s numbers are better than those we saw from Andrew Booth, who earned higher grades. He’s right on par with some of the others.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed this young man to a huge undrafted free-agent deal (a fully-guaranteed $217,000), and if he works his way past some of the veterans that the Eagles already have o the roster at cornerback, no one should be surprised. Grade: A+

Josh Blackwell, Duke Blue Devils (cornerback)

Former Duke Blue Devils cornerback received a $12,500 signing bonus from Philadelphia as part of an undrafted deal that guarantees him $125,000. What’s concerning is he played 32 games at Duke and didn’t register a single interception and only has 20 pass breakups to his credit. Maybe they should have gone with the guy who played on the other side, Leonard Johnson. Grade: C

Josh Jobe, Alabama Crimson Tide (cornerback)

A late-season injury could have affected Josh Jobe’s draft status some as he was Alabama’s most talented corner prior to it happening. He made a lot of mistakes, and was, at times, inconsistent, but he could be a very good corner for Philadelphia. Grade: B-

Noah Elliss, Idaho Vandals (defensive tackle)

The Philadelphia Eagles’ process of roster building will always begin with the defensive line’s interior. Add Noah Elliss to the fray, a six-foot-four, 346-pound defensive tackle/nose tackle who is a bully at the point of attack. Grade: C

Reed Blankenship, Middle Tennessee State (safety)

This definitely helps the issues at safety. Reed Blankenship is a five-year starter and a three-year captain. He’s someone to watch in camp. Grade: C

Ali Fayad, Western Michigan Broncos (EDGE)

MAC Defensive Player of the Year Ali Fayad isn’t getting the guaranteed money that some of his new teammates are getting. As a matter of fact, he isn’t getting any. We’re sure he’s still proud and excited about the opportunity though.

He’s listed as a linebacker, and it’s assumed he’ll play on the strong side. This six-foot-one, 248-pound standout accumulated 12 sacks during the most recent college football season. If that translates to the professional level, we could be on to something. Grade: B+
