4 big winners from the Philadelphia Eagles decision to acquire A.J. Brown
Let’s not make statements like the Philadelphia Eagles’ OC doesn’t do anything.
Before we say anything else, let’s get something straight. Though some of you believe there’s no need for an offensive coordinator if they don’t call plays on game day, nothing could be further from the truth. There’s a lot more that goes into doing the job and performing it well.
Sure, there are several instances that we can point to and say that those are our reasons for wondering what it is that Shane Steichen actually does on game days and the weeks that lead up to them. Still, he holds one of the three most important assistant coaching roles in the organization. His involvement will either contribute to wins or losses.
There’s another component to Steichen’s job description that we don’t discuss as often. He’s the fall guy if the offense struggles. He’s the scapegoat in waiting so to speak.
If Philly’s offense struggles again in 2022, it won’t be Nick Sirianni that falls on the proverbial sword. They’ll get rid of Steichen first, much like Philly got rid of Mike Groh and held on to Doug Pederson.
A.J. Brown upgrades the wide receiver corps. He also makes the job easier for his coaches. Trust and believe two things. No one is happier that Brown is an Eagle than his position coach, Aaron Morrehead, but trust and believe that Shane Steichen is just as happy that he’s here. This may have extended his shelf life too.
