Eagles best free-agent safety options with Tyrann Mathieu off the table
Despite some deterioration, Tashaun Gipson upgrades the Eagles’ secondary immediately.
An undrafted rookie free agent in 2012, Tashaun Gipson has made quite a name for himself. If his ride in the NFL is nearing its end, he has nothing to be ashamed of.
He made the Pro Bowl in 2014. He has more than 560 tackles on his career resume to go along with 27 interceptions, a sack, 57 pass breakups, and three defensive touchdowns. If Philly has a guy like this sitting in their undrafted rookie free-agent class, watch out.
Like Collins, the best may be over in terms of what he’s able to provide, but he proved there’s still some tread left on the tires as he racked up 47 stops, the aforementioned sack, and two picks in 12 games.
He turns 32 at the end of August, but unlike Collins, he still provides value and quality as a defender in the passing game. It’s for that reason that we place him ahead of Landon on this list. Is he someone the Eagles could take a look at? He may be the one guy on this list that provides the easiest transition from Rodney McLeod to someone else.
