The Eagles could benefit by having this elusive and powerful runner in their backfield.

The Eagles had the best rushing attack in the NFL last year, and many are expecting them to approach this season with a similar strategy. While the front office has worked on getting Jalen Hurts weapons in the passing game, A.J. Brown and Zach Pascal for instance, they’ve ignored the running back corps completely aside from signing Oklahoma’s Kennedy Brooks as an undrafted free agent.

Brooks shares the Eagles’ running back room with Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, Kenneth Gainwell, and Jason Huntley. This leaves them without a true goal-line power back, and signing running back Kalen Ballage could help them fill this need.

Ballage isn’t exclusively known as a power back, but with his six-foot-two size and ability to push players past the line of scrimmage, he will fill Jordan Howard’s role and has the potential to become a one-two punch with Sanders.

Ballage is only 26 years old and is coming off his fourth season in the pros. He’s spent time with the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, L.A. Chargers, and, most recently, the Steelers. He has never eclipsed 350 rushing yards but has had scored three touchdowns in all but one season.

This isn’t a true starter in the league and per se. His stats aren’t overwhelming, but his consistency is a good sign for anyone looking for a backup at the tailback position.

Signing Ballage to a multi-year deal won’t just help this season. He’d also provide Philly with another running back for the 2023 season. So far, Kenneth Gainwell is the only player currently under contract past this season.
