We’re counting down the 15 greatest draft choices in Philadelphia Eagles history.
The NFL Draft isn’t an exact science. Very rarely will you have to remind a Philadelphia Eagles fan of that fact, nor will you have to remind them that this team has seen more than its fair share of draft day misses in every era of the franchise’s existence. Jay Berwanger, Leroy Keyes, Danny Watkins, and Jalen Reagor are some obvious examples if you need a few.
Keep those chins up. It hasn’t been all bad.
We’ve seen Philly hit a few home runs too, and we’ve gathered here to reminisce on some of them. Consider this a thank you for some exceptional men who’ve made it easy to be a Birds fan.
Pete Retzlaff is a two-time First-Team All-Pro, a two-time Second-Team All-Pro, and a five-time Pro Bowler who helped Philly win the 1960 NFL Championship, but he was also drafted by the Detroit Lions. That makes him ineligible for mention here.
How about Norm Van Brocklin? Nope! He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams.
Here’s what we will do. We’ll give an honorable mention to Jerome Brown. His number 99 was retired, but how good might he have been if he wasn’t taken from us suddenly?
Here’s a gift. What follows is a list that you’ll find interesting. Here are the top 15 draft choices in franchise history. You can argue among yourselves about the order, but there’s no denying each man has earned his spot on the list. With that being said, let the debate begin.
