. Bob Brown (1964). 8. player. 54. .

Bob Brown’s run with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1964 to 1968 was legendary.

Bring up a conversation about some of the greatest Philadelphia Eagles to ever wear the team’s jersey, and you will rarely hear Bob Brown’s name come up. That isn’t because it shouldn’t. The Birds drafted him second overall during Round 1 of 1964’s NFL Draft, and after his first season, he was named rookie of the year. Things only got better from there.

Three of his six Pro Bowl nods and three of his five First-Team All-Pro nods came as a member of the Birds in 1965, 1966, and 1968. He earned Second-team All-Pro nods in 1964 and 1967. It was a different time then though.

There was no such thing as Pro Football Focus premium stats. There was no NFL Next Gen engine, so the theory about offensive linemen was often something to the effect of ‘they were mentioned if they did something wrong’. Thank goodness the right people were paying attention though.

Brown was an unquestioned star for ten NFL seasons, so much so that he was elected to the NFL 1960s All-Decade Team, the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. You can’t tell the story of this team from 1964 to 1968 without bringing his name up.
