Playing in the old NFC Central and the current NFC North, the Minnesota Vikings have never been a divisional rival of the Philadelphia Eagles, nor will they ever be. Why is it, then, that the mention of this team bothers us so much? We aren’t the only ones who feel like that, right?

Perhaps it was the time their fans disrespected the entire city and Birds fans nationwide by doing the Skol chant on what’s referred to as ‘The Rocky Steps’ at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Maybe it’s those meetings in the playoffs.

During Philly’s run to their last two Super Bowl appearances, they faced the same two opponents, the Atlanta Falcons and the Minnesota Vikings. Their last playoff tilt resulted in a 38-7 shellacking by the Birds on January 21st of 2018, and some hurt feelings by the Vikings faithful. The Philly faithful even did a chant of their own, replacing the word ‘Skol’ with ‘Foles’ as Nick Foles shredded the Vikings in an NFC Championship Game this fan base will remember forever.

Eagles fans will never possess the same disdain for the Vikes that they harbor for the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, or the Washington Commanders, but it’s never pretty when these two teams lock horns. They renew acquaintances in 2022.

Expect Eagles fans to be in front of the television for Monday Night Football in Week 2.

The Monday Night Football game to conclude Week 2 in the NFL is must-see television for Birds fans. The Philadelphia Eagles host the Minnesota Vikings!

This one doubles as Philly’s home opener. Here’s some background.

These two proud franchises have met 29 times with the Vikes leading the all-time series by a 15-14 margin. Again, they don’t play each other often, but when they have, it’s normally been an important game.

In what’s now 18-week, 17-game regular season, this meeting won’t send either team to the Super Bowl, but for two franchises that are trying to find their way, it could determine playoff positioning later. Rest assured, there isn’t a Birds fan walking with plans of missing this one. Let’s hope Vikings fans won’t be silly enough to do the Skol chant in the City of Brotherly Love again.
