We’ll be honest. Sometimes, when we have a few moments, we sit around, and we wonder what guys like DeVonta Smith are thinking. It isn’t the first time that’s happened. Some of his peers in the NFL and members of the media have done the same thing.

Shortly after the Philadelphia Eagles made the man formerly known as the ‘Slim Reaper’ the tenth-overall selection of the 2021 NFL Draft, New York Giants safety Jabril Peppers slighted the organization suggesting that Smitty’s reaction didn’t reinforce any theories about how excited he was about joining his new team.

Sure, it was cute. It was also petty. The G-Men had to feel as though they had landed someone with far less potential with their selection of Kadarius Toney with the 20th-overall selection. So far, that theory appears to be accurate.

Seeing Smith celebrate with his teammates following a blowout Week 1 win versus the Atlanta Falcons in 2021 or listening to him talk about his excitement in working with A.J. Brown gives us all the confidence we need that he’s right where he wants to be. Still, if you didn’t know better, you might have had a slight scare after seeing what happened at a recent Philadelphia 76ers game.

Don’t worry Eagles fans! DeVonta Smith isn’t going anywhere!

By now, you’ve all seen this, but just in case you’ve been busy, here’s what you’ve missed. DeVonta Smith was in attendance at the Wells Fargo Center for Game 4 of the Philadelphia 76ers’ game versus the Miami Heat when he was spotted and thrown on the jumbotron… right above a caption calling him a “Former Philadelphia Eagle”.

We’re going to assume that lifelong Philly sports fans don’t always work the boards at Wells Fargo. Perhaps it was some teenager that’s just really tech-savvy.

In all seriousness though, DeVonta had fun with it, taking to Twitter and referencing the cult classic film, Friday, in his response.

It’s nice to see him having fun with it, but for those of you who might be performing a Google search or asking yourselves ‘why didn’t we trade Jalen Reagor?’, fear not. Number 6 will be back on the field for the Birds during the 2022-2023 NFL season.

Year one produced some good fruit. He set the Eagles franchise record for receiving yards by a rookie with 916 after hauling in 64 receptions during the 2021-2022 regular-season campaign. He also reached the end zone five times. It should be fun to watch him take the next step in year two… Sorry, Jabril Peppers… Better luck next time.
