54. . . . K'Von Wallace, safety. 42. player

K’Von Wallace hasn’t evolved into the player that the Eagles would have hoped he’d be.

There was some perceived ‘boom-or-bust’ potential when the Philadelphia Eagles made K’Von Wallace the 127th-overall selection during Round 4 of the 2020 NFL Draft. The former Clemson Tiger was intriguing as he had been moved all over the field during his time in Death Valley. If that could translate to the professional level, the Birds would have quite a weapon on their hands.

So far, things haven’t quite worked out that way. Wallace is no slouch, but there are areas in which he could improve. Still, with there being no major safety additions on the Eagles roster to speak of, during free agency or the NFL Draft, K’Von seemingly has little to worry about… maybe.

There’s hope that Howie will still make one more move (or two) prior to the start of training camp. Perhaps he initiates a trade for Jessie Bates III or another that upgrades the backend of the Eagles’ defense with a proven difference-maker.

If nothing changes between now and the start of the regular season, Anthony Harris and Marcus Epps will hold down the fort as Philadelphia’s starting duo at safety, and with the knowledge of the Eagles’ history of keeping at least one safety around to provide help on special teams (and with Andre Chachere, Jared Mayden, and undrafted Reed Blankenship being the only other players on the roster that play the position) Wallace, who boasts 414 regular-season special teams snaps and another 386 on defense in 28 career games figures to be safe in terms of job security… for now.
