Hurts will air it out against Houston to get the Eagles an easy win

This one follows what figures to be a tough matchup at home versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. Regardless of how that one winds up going, the Birds will fly south to Houston to take on the Texans in Week 9 for some target practice.

Houston’s defense allowed an average of 254 passing yards by opposing quarterbacks a season ago. They also gave up an average of just under two touchdowns per game. As was stated in reference to the Detroit Lions a little earlier, Philadelphia will have an opportunity to make plays. Houston produced the sixth-highest total in terms of passing plays that covered 40 yards or more.

To make matters worse, Houston lost cornerback Lonnie Johnson Jr. and safety Justin Reid in the offseason to the Kansas City Chiefs. They posted two of the top three interceptions totals for the team during the 2021-2022 campaign. Lovie Smith can be a great coach when he’s given talent, but there’s no way that all of the Texans’ will be cured during a single offseason. He truly has a mess on his hands.

So, what can we expect from Jalen Hurts versus a rebuilding Texans defense? We’ll keep things simple. Another 250 yards and two passing touchdowns sound about right. The running game should take over once a healthy lead is established.

More. Reasons to expect huge leaps from Dallas Goedert. light

Hurts is a player. He’s always looking to get better. Following a healthy share of QB duels versus some of the game’s best passers in 2021, he should enjoy a couple of tune-up games here and there on his way to proving that he can indeed be Philly’s QB1 going forward. We should definitely see some improvement in his arm talent as he continues to grow as a passer.
