Just like that, it’s official. After reports of their being speculation of former Philadelphia Eagles reuniting in Indianapolis with the Colts, Nick Foles is signed and sealed. He should be delivered to the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center sooner rather than later.

According to a report by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the MVP of Super Bowl LII has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with Indy. He’s expected to serve as Matt Ryan‘s backup.

The last time Frank Reich, the Eagles former offensive coordinator and current Colts head coach, rolled the dice on bringing a signal-caller he coached in the City of Brotherly Love to Indianapolis, things didn’t work out. That was Carson Wentz.

Now, just a tad over two months after Chris Ballard and company sent Wentz packing to the Washington Commanders, along with the Colts’ second and seventh-round draft choices in the 2022 NFL Draft, Indy welcomes the man who replaced Wentz in the Eagles lineup not once, but twice: 2017 after Carson ruptured both his ACL and MCL and again in 2018 when Wentz literally played the earlier portion of the season with a broken back.

Some would even, believably so, that he replaced Carson in the hearts of much of the Eagles fan base AND among teammates.

If you’ll remember, Eagles players built a shrine to Nick after his exit during the 2019 offseason. You’ve never heard of them doing that for Carson, have you?

Is there any chance of the Eagles taking the field in Week 11 versus the Colts with Nick Foles at the helm?

Part of what makes the NFL so real and enjoyable is its storylines. There always seems to be a backstory with every matchup and every game. Come on. You don’t think Russell Wilson and the Broncos being scheduled to face the Seahawks in Seattle on national television in Week 1 is a coincidence, do you?

Storylines drive some of the NFL’s intrigue, and in every game, you can find one (or four). It would be interesting to see Frank Reich, Nick Foles, and the Colts on the field versus the Eagles’ new-look defense in a game, but it’s doubtful that it will happen.

As mentioned earlier, Foles’ role is to serve as a backup to Matt Ryan who has enjoyed a relatively healthy career. In 14 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, Ryan, 2008’s Offensive Rookie of the Year and the NFL’s Most Valuable Player of the 2016 season, appeared in 232 games and started every single one of them. That includes ten playoff starts.

He’s only missed three games in that time. So, yeah, Foles starting versus the Eagles would make for a great subplot, but we’d be willing to wager that probably won’t happen.
