How many of the Eagles cornerbacks can we place here?

If nothing changed between now and the start of the preseason, the Eagles will have 12 cornerbacks on the roster. They figure to walk into the regular season with six.

We know that Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and Avonte Maddox will make the roster. We are reasonably convinced that Zech McPhearson, a fourth-round draft choice in 2021, is probably safe. That means the other eight guys are more than likely competing for two spots on the roster.

Here’s the rest of the lineup: Kary Vincent Jr., Josiah Scott, Mac McCain III, Tay Gowan, Craig James, and the undrafted rookies (Josh Blackwell, Mario Goodrich, and Josh Jobe). This will be an entertaining battle all summer.

2022 Cap Hit/Dead Cap Money

Check out these numbers. Slay, Bradberry, and Maddox count as $10,131,000, $2,278,000, and $2,540,266 against the cap respectively. Bradberry’s deal was for one year and will pay him $7,250,000. That includes a $6,215,000 signing bonus and all of the $7,250,000 is guaranteed.

Collectively, those three account for $53,259,064 in dead-cap money. Yeah, they aren’t going anywhere.

One other thing of note is this. Philly promised Goodrich, Blackwell, and Jobe a lot of guaranteed money: $217,000 guaranteed, $137,500 guaranteed, and $135,000 guaranteed respectively. The full totals count against the cap if they’re released. Keep that in mind as we move through the offseason.
