. . Reed Blankenship, safety. 46. player. 54.

With a limited number of safeties on the Eagles roster, Reed Blakenship figures to see a lot of snaps.

The Philadelphia Eagles, if nothing changed between now and August, will navigate the heat and rigors of training camp with 13 cornerbacks on the roster and 12 wide receivers. That’s a lot of guys that we’ll be discussing and breaking down.

Things get a little easier when we talk about the safeties though. Currently, there are six on the roster. Conventional wisdom has taught us that keeping four is a pretty good idea. Recent history has taught us that Philadelphia likes to keep five around as one is normally a special teams ace. Think about Chris Maragos.

It can’t be ruled out that the Eagles might add someone late. They’ve been known to do so, but for now, if the current lineup wound up being the same one we see in September, then, of course, Anthony Harris and Marcus Epps would be the starters, and you’d have to figure that K’Von Wallace, Andre Chachere, and maybe Jared Mayden are the reserves.

That would leave undrafted rookie Reed Blankenship as the odd-man-out, but again, with only six safeties on the current roster, the former Middle Tennessee Blue Raider will see playing time and reps. He’ll have more than his fair share of opportunities to impress the coaches and see if he can’t finagle his way onto, at minimum, the practice squad.
