Former first-rounder wrongly linked to Eagles as his second-chance option
The Eagles have learned first-hand the importance of protecting your own quarterback while harassing others.
As mentioned earlier, the NFL game is a simple one. It’s all about protecting your quarterback and harassing the one on the other team.
Again, finding your quarterback can often be easier said than done. That’s why five or six guys are being taken in every NFL Draft with the hope that they’ll be that guy, but the best teams have figured out who they’re hitching their wagon to.
Once the said wagon is hitched, you want to find guys to protect him and guys that play on defense who can make life tough for the other team’s guy. That’s probably what this Eagles team does the best job of doing.
Sure, there are exceptions. Teams can have spike years with an average guy under center. We’ve seen that in Philly as well. Those teams never won championships though, so it’s obvious that teams would want to and need to find the franchise.
If an NFL team wants to win and do so consistently (and for a while), a franchise signal-caller is necessary on offense. So are offensive linemen to protect him and pass rushers for the defensive unit.
