Who knew, a week ago, that we’d be talking about possible Eagles dominoes falling after a Jaquiski Tartt acquisition?

In a world where it’s seemingly become harder to find people to trust, perhaps we all should find friends in the Philadelphia Eagles front office and share our innermost secrets with some of them. No one keeps secrets as well as this organization’s leadership structure.

Sure, once the Tyrann Mathieu thing didn’t work, our staff at Inside The Iggles mentioned a few unsigned safeties that we thought Philly ought to check out, and Jaquiski Tartt was the owner of our top name on that list, but we didn’t think Howie Roseman would make that move. Plus, everyone held out hope that Howie would pull off the unthinkable and land Jessie Bates.

Tartt is a solid signing though. A former teammate of James Bradberry’s in college at Samford, this former Bulldog was the 46th-overall selection in 2015’s NFL Draft. Since then, he’s battled injuries, plenty of them, but he’s added 367 total tackles, four sacks, four interceptions, 18 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 80 career regular-season games with 64 starts.

He’s added another 27 tackles and a sack in six career playoff games. Philadelphia got a baller here, and he might be the best option at the safety position not named Bates that the Birds had (if you call Bates an option).

Tartt will compete for a starting role immediately, but he’s also created a few unexpected ripples. Here are two young Eagles with a lot to think about, and perhaps a reason to sweat now that he’s here.
