Cornerback. . player. 54. . .

We know who the Eagles are starting at cornerback. Who are the reserves?

Dare we say that there are expectations in the Eagles fan base now? The roster looks very impressive… on paper. Unfortunately, games are played on the gridiron, not in the press clippings. Still, there’s a reason for optimism.

Prior to the most recent offseason, it had become commonplace to discuss Philly’s needs every time March rolled around. It wasn’t hard to identify them because they’re seemingly the same every time we arrive at this point.

They always need another starting outside corner. Sometimes, they need two of them. We’re always talking about how they need to fix the linebacker corps and create some stability at wide receiver. That always seems to lead to a discussion about how they need another safety (or two).

Vice president/general manager Howie Roseman did a bang-up job as he’s seemingly driven a wedge in the revolving door at wideout. He’s also signed Darius Slay‘s complement, 2020 Pro Bowler James Bradberry.

Sure, we all realize that Bradberry is only signed for the coming season, so we’ll, more than likely revisit familiar territory come March of 2023. Until then, he helps anchor a talented trio that boasts the aforementioned Big Play and the Eagles’ starting slot corner, a newly minted Avonte Maddox.

As is the case at wideout, Philly has a ton of guys competing for roster spots, 13 to be exact. Ten are competing for what figures to be three spots on the roster. Just look at the names: Josh Blackwell, Kary Vincent Jr., Josiah Scott, Mario Goodrich, Tay Gowan, Jimmy Moreland, Craig James, Josh Jobe, Mac McCain III, and Zech McPhearson.

Yes friends, that’s a lot of bodies. The battle Philly has at cornerback figures to be the most entertaining they have at camp because you can argue most if not all of these guys on or off of the roster.
